The best pizza I have ever eaten was, of all things, a Greek pizza, served in, of all places, Duck, North Carolina. This delightsome creation was concocted at Pizzazz Pizza, an ultra-casual eatery at which you go up to a counter to order, then sit either inside or outdoors at utilitarian tables. Never mind the simple surroundings, the food is great.
The Greek pizza consisted of a perfect crust, rubbed with garlic and oil, and covered with mozzarella cheese, feta cheese, tomatoes, spinach, whole kalamata olives, onions, banana peppers, and optional anchovies. The 12-inch pizza cost $13.50, the 16-inch, $17.50. My husband, daughter, and I shared the “small” size, and it was absolutely scrumptious.
Son Jonathan had a 6-inch “Chic-O-Philly” sandwich ($5.75), which he enjoyed. It consisted of shredded Philadelphia-style chicken breast, onions, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise. David, my other son, had a tasty Chicken Parmesan sandwich composed of sliced grilled chicken breast covered with marinara sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese ($5.75 for the 6-inch size).
Other hot subs are available, as are salads and “snacks” such as “Spicy Curly Fries” and “Hot Wings.”
Several different types of pizza are offered at the lunchtime “all you can eat” pizza buffet.
The restaurant is situated in the Loblolly Pines Shopping Center on the main road in Duck. Another Pizzazz Pizza is located in Kitty Hawk at Milepost 3.5 on the bypass. At the Kitty Hawk location, both a lunch and dinner buffet, with a 30+ item salad bar are featured.
